Favorite Markets Donates $175,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

DALTON, Ga. -- Favorite Markets, a 109-store convenience chain located here, made a $175,000 cash contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of the largest contributions given by a local company to the hospital to date.

"Once again this year, I can't begin to tell you how proud we are to make another record-breaking contribution to St. Jude, one of the most deserving causes anywhere," said Sam Turner, president and CEO of Favorite Markets.

The donation was raised through the sale of Coors paper pumpkins, a program in which all stores participated. The chain also held an incentive contest for store managers, which awarded cash to those that raised the most money for the donation.

Since the 2003 campaign, Favorite Markets was recognized as the largest contributor to St. Jude in the entire convenience industry, and the second largest retail contributor in the U.S. Since the company began its campaign with St. Jude in 1998, it has given more than $875,000 to the hospital.

"Our internal theme for our company of 'People Make the Difference' is never more appropriate than at this time of the year when we can help the less fortunate children of St. Jude," said Turner. "Our employees continue to make a difference, since they are the ones who made this major contribution possible. They continue to be very active and involved in soliciting contributions from our valued customers."

Turner continued: "On behalf of nearly 1,000 employees, I am happy to say 'thanks' to our customers who have helped make our contributions and involvement possible. We are firm believers in giving back to the communities where we work, and times like this are very special to our entire staff and to me personally."

Favorite Markets operates 109 convenience stores throughout northeast Georgia, eastern Tennessee and northern Alabama. The company also owns and operates the 21 Com-Pac convenience stores in the Mobile, Alabama area.
