Smokeless tobacco products post positive numbers across the board
The big story in 2010 within the Other Tobacco Products (OTP) category was that cigars were pushing to close the gap with smokeless. Last year, though, smokeless caught its footing and was the only OTP segment to see increases in sales and unit volume. Adult tobacco users searching for an alternative to cigarettes and new products entering the market were key drivers behind the growth.
However, the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Tobacco Products took up the issue of dissolvable tobacco products earlier this year, so retailers and tobacco companies alike need to keep an eye out for regulations.
