First Virginia C-Store Expo Considered a Success

RICHMOND, Va. -- More than 1,000 store owners and 80 vendors attended last week's inaugural Virginia C-Store Expo, sponsored by the Virginia Asian American Store Owners Association.

The event, which took place at the Richmond Raceway Complex, was a success, Chairman Minesh J. Patel told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "For the independent owner to have power, we have to be united," he said. "The goal is to have one Asian American association in every state."

During the show last week, the year-old Virginia Asian American Store Owners Association tripled its membership size. Patel told the newspaper he was already looking forward to next year's event. "Today's market is very difficult for the individual," he said. "You cannot fight it by yourself."

Vipul Patel, executive director of the Florida Asian American Store Owners Association, added, "This is to get united. Numbers are power in this business. The large chains get a better price that we don't get."
