FPI Honors A-B and Others at 2005 Packaging Awards Competition

FALLS CHURCH, Va.--A 16-ounce aluminum bottle used by Anheuser-Busch Inc. for its upscale beer packaging was named the 2005 Foodservice Package of the Year in the fourth annual QSR Magazine--Foodservice & Packaging Institute foodservice packaging awards competition.

In selecting the Anheuser-Busch aluminum bottle, the judges said, "The use of the aluminum bottle is a huge change in the adult beverage market. It is very eye catching in its use of graphics, top to bottom, versus standard bottles and bottle labels. This would be a great package in any fast casual restaurant that serves alcohol."

Anheuser-Busch’s bottle was deemed the "best of the best" from among 111 entries in seven categories. In addition to its top selection, the bottle was selected for first place in "The WOW!! Factor" category in the competition.

"All of the competition categories featured unique and outstanding packages, but the aluminum bottle really impressed the judges. It definitely stood out, both in its category, and in the entire field of entries," said John R. Burke, president of the Institute. "Kudos to A-B for its decision to use this consumer-pleasing package."
