Fresh & Easy Attracting Employees
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Since May, Fresh & Easy has opened six stores, and last month alone it received more than 10,000 job applications, the company reported.
The onslaughts of applicants were in response to the company’s pledge to hire 750 new employees by September, which is welcome news in an otherwise tough job market. Tim Mason, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market chief executive officer, explained that entry-level positions start at $10 an hour in California and Nevada, with similarly competitive salaries in Arizona, and include a quarterly bonus of up to 10 percent. The company provides the opportunity for all employees to work at least 20 hours per week, which entitles them to comprehensive and affordable healthcare, he said.
"With every store we open, we are bringing new jobs that pay well and offer great benefits," Mason said in a statement. "We’ve put a lot of effort into treating our employees with respect and valuing them as people. Our efforts are clearly paying off with the continued increase in people wanting to work with us."
Mason explained that the company will soon open its first store in the San Fernando Valley and another in Hesperia, California. Next week, the company will open a store in San Diego and another in the Harbor City neighborhood of Los Angeles.
