Gambling For Gas
LEDYARD, Conn. -- High rollers that subscribe to Foxwoods Casino's "Wampum Rewards" loyalty program can see up to $500 in free gas when they gamble at the Connecticut resort, the Hartford Courant reported.
Gamblers can earn a "wampum" point for every $90 they spend at the casino's tables. For every point earned, Foxwoods exchanges them for a dollar's worth of gas -- up to $500 for a single player, the newspaper reported.
With an average price of $3.23 a gallon in the state, customers said it was worth the three-hour wait in line to get the cards, which are redeemable at Exxon or Mobil stations, the Hartford Courant reported. Judy Kelly and her husband told the paper they came from Franklin, Mass. to take advantage of the promotion.
In order to handle the demand, the casino had to open three additional sites to accommodate long lines last week. The next promotion will take place during two days in August.
