GasBuddy: Costco, ARCO Offer Lowest Gas Prices
GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- For the second year in a row, Costco Wholesale Corp. is the leader in gasoline value pricing, according to GasBuddy, which combed through more than 35 million individual gas prices throughout the country.
On average in 2013, Costco was priced more than 14 cents per gallon lower than its local competitors in a given region, GasBuddy reported. Costco was also No. 1 in 2012, when it was 12.84 cents per gallon cheaper than competitors.
Placing second in 2013 was ARCO, which was 13.5 cents lower than competitors, on average.
Other convenience store operators on GasBuddy's Top 25 list include USA Petroleum, Maverik Inc., Murphy USA Inc., Murphy Express, RaceTrac Petroleum Corp., Wawa Inc. and Pilot Flying J.
"We applaud these chains that clearly do their best to keep gas prices low for consumers," said Jason Toews, founder of GasBuddy. "Our goal at GasBuddy is to help consumers save money when buying fuel, and identifying the consistently cheapest sites is a key step."
Other big-box clubs and supermarket operators comprised the rest of the Top 25 list.
