Giant Eagle Continues Convenience, Fuel Roll Out

PITTSBURGH -- Supermarket retailer Giant Eagle Inc. will continue its expansion in Ohio with the grand opening June 8 of a 75,000 square-foot facility featuring a GetGo convenience store and gas station.

The Giant Eagle supermarket marks the company's second Toledo location, following the 2001 opening of its store located in Rossford, Ohio. It features Giant Eagle's signature supermarket concept, plus amenities such as GetGo convenience store; The Kitchens at Giant Eagle, home-meal-replacement foodservice concept; the Java Sonata Cafe; a ProSeries Photo Center; and Dress For Success Cleaners, an in-store dry cleaning service.

Giant Eagle launched the GetGo from Giant Eagle convenience concept last month in Ohio and Pennsylvania to provide time-pressed consumers with a complement to the routine supermarket trip. GetGo is located adjacent t the new supermarket and is complete with multiple fueling stations and convenience-oriented products, such as snacks, tobacco and beverages, in 600 square feet of space.

As the concept continues to evolve, GetGo plans to introduce prepared foods and Giant Eagle brand products, frozen foods, bread/bakery items, dairy, groceries, fresh coffee and cold drinks, snack and candy items, automotive products, and beer and wine where available. Giant Eagle Advantage Card holders also will receive per gallon discounts depending on the fuel grade they purchase.

GetGo is a product of Crossroads Convenience LLC, a joint venture between Giant Eagle and the owners of Guttman Enterprises. In addition to three other GetGo locations, the joint venture also manages 27 Crossroads' convenience stores and 15 Giant Eagle Fuel Station locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The Giant Eagle Fuel Stations are expected to be converted to the GetGo banner later this year, the companies said.

"Our signature store model showcases our passion for food and represents the service oriented shopping environment that we have refined over the course of our 72 year history," said Giant Eagle's Vice President of Marketing Kevin Srigley. We've worked hard to create an enjoyable shopping experience that our customers appreciate and keeps them coming back week after week."
