Giant Eagle Piloting Home Delivery Service

PITTSBURGH — Multiformat retailer Giant Eagle is trying out the home delivery market.

The operator of supermarkets and fuel/convenience stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland launched the first phase of its Curbside Express Home Delivery pilot program, which enables customers to choose from roughly 45,000 grocery items.

There is a $12.95 flat-rate delivery charge on all orders following the first, free order. Orders can be placed up to seven days in advance of the desired delivery date. For next-day delivery, orders must be placed online by 11:59 p.m. the day prior. There is no minimum purchase requirement.

Giant Eagle selected the South Hills section of its native Pittsburgh market for the first pilot phase of Curbside Express Home Delivery. 

Curbside Express originally debuted as Giant Eagle's grocery pickup service. Launched in 2012, the pickup service has since rolled out to 27 Giant Eagle stores throughout Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus and Indianapolis.
