Gilbarco Forms Partnership With National Payment Card Association

GREENSBORO, N.C. and COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – Gilbarco Veeder-Root formed a strategic partnership with National Payment Card Association (NPCA), whereby a low-cost automated clearing house (ACH) payment solution will be added to the former’s payment technology suite.

The partnership will also facilitate a cost-effective mobile payment option across Gilbarco's Passport point-of-sale network.

"With the largest partnership network in the industry, Gilbarco is expanding further to include payment choice," said Travis Bouck, vice president of marketing, North America, for Gilbarco Veeder-Root. "Our agreement with NPCA brings together our intellectual property to provide Gilbarco retailers with reduced transaction fees and greater payment options to increase loyalty and meet the dynamic needs of today’s consumers. It’s a solid win-win."

Under the agreement, Gilbarco’s convenience store retailers will be able to upgrade their loyalty cards into debit cards tied directly to consumer checking accounts. Because the payments are processed directly from a consumer’s bank account, merchants avoid credit and debit card swipe fees, according to Gilbarco.

"Our partnership with Gilbarco Veeder-Root brings the lowest-cost form of payment for mobile- and card-based solutions to Gilbarco’s embedded base of retailers. Our arrangement with them provides retailers with the ownership of their consumer data to further enhance their loyalty programs," added Peter Guidi, vice president of sales for NPCA. "We are eager to deliver low-cost payments in the near-term, and be a part of Gilbarco’s long-term strategy on innovative whole-site retail solutions."

This agreement marks the second pact that NPCA has signed in the past week. As CSNews Online reported on Oct. 10, Acumera is also teaming up with NPCA to launch an app designed to significantly reduce hardware and install costs for convenience store retailers. Coconut Creek, Fla.-based National Payment Card Association is a marketer of ACH decoupled card and mobile payment systems. The Spinx Co., Flash Foods Inc. and The Cumberland Gulf Group are among the c-store operators that utilizes its services.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root offers a broad range of solutions, from the forecourt to the convenience store and head office.
