Gulf Oil "Sunrise" Shines on Atlanta Braves
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Gulf Oil signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Major League Baseball's (MLB) Atlanta Braves, which began with the April 5, opening day game vs. the Chicago Cubs.
As part of the sponsorship, rotational signage behind home plate will display Gulf's "Sunrise" logo at all home games at Turner Field.
"The Braves are proud to welcome Gulf Oil to our family," said Derek Schiller, executive vice president of sales and marketing for the Braves, said in a statement. "We are excited about sharing this partnership with all Braves fans throughout the Southeast and across the country. We are also confident that this new partnership will help grow Gulf's business throughout the southeast."
Gulf Oil acquired all title and interests to the Gulf brand from Chevron U.S.A. Inc. Jan. 12. The company now controls the right to market the brand throughout the United States and its territories. Prior to this agreement, Gulf-branded gasoline in the continental U.S. has only been available in an 11-state region in the Northeast through a licensing agreement.
"We want to provide tangible evidence to our new branded distributors and retail customers that Gulf is back -- and moreover we are committed to staying long term in these new markets. We believe that this high-profile presence in Atlanta clearly shows our determination to support the brand in new and important areas of the country," Gulf Oil senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer Rick Dery said in a statement. "Millions of loyal Braves fans from all over the country make the trip to Turner Field, which offers a great blend of the old-time baseball atmosphere with state-of-the-art family entertainment. These fans will now associate Gulf as a part of that experience."
Gulf Oil President and Chief Operating Officer Ron Sabia added: "Gulf Oil's sponsorship of the Braves is another important element in establishing the brand's reputation as a premium nationwide gasoline retailer."
