Is His Name Earl?

In a scene seemingly ripped from the script of a prime time TV comedy, The New York Post reported recently on the travails of a shoplifter at a Salt Lake City convenience store. The young man, caught stealing a package of Pop-Tarts, reportedly lost his shirt struggling with a clerk before fleeing the store.

He didn't get far. He was hit by a pickup truck in the store parking lot, got up, and resumed running, right into the path of a minivan. He got up again, and limped away into the waiting arms of the police.

In the NBC sitcom, My Name Is Earl, the main character, a lifelong petty criminal, has a revelation that changes is life when he is hit by a car right after buying a winning lottery ticket. Hopefully, the young man in Utah will have a similar change of heart about his (alleged) thieving ways.
