Hy-Vee, Target issue recall for store brand macadamia nuts

Hy-Vee Inc., West Des Moines, Iowa, said it is voluntarily recalling Hy-Vee 2-ounce Macadamia Nuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The nuts, sold between July 2, 2015 and Feb. 3, 2016, were distributed to all of Hy-Vee’s 240 grocery stores across its eight-state region of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.  To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this product.

According to a Feb. 24 Twin Cities Business online post, Minneapolis-based Target Corp. also issued a voluntary recall for its Market Pantry macadamia nuts for the same reason. The Hy-Vee and Target nuts were produced by Omaha-based Marathon Ventures Inc. and tested positive for the bacteria during routine testing by the FDA.
