LONDON--UK retail giant Tesco is now planning to expand in city centers and within smaller cities in the Czech Republic, reported PlanetRetail.com.
The international retailer has launched its first convenience stores in the Czech Republic under the Tesco Express banner. Express units range from 300 square meters (approx. 3,000 sq. ft.) and offer up to 2,000 items, mainly groceries, alcoholic beverages and bakery products. The first two stores were opened in Rokytnice nad Jizerou and Turnov last week, according to the report.
Tesco is not planning a similar strategy for its U.S. debut in California in 2007. The U.S. game plan calls for just Express units, at least initially, according to PlanetRetail.com.
