Kum & Go to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go, a convenience store chain with headquarters here, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. The company started with one gas station in Hampton, Iowa, and has grown to more than 430 locations across 12 states, the Des Moines Register reported.

Revenue at the company has nearly doubled, going from $1.1 billion to $2.1 billion, during the past three years due to the addition of new stores and improved same-store sales at existing stores, officials of the privately held company told the newspaper.

Kum & Go's store count continues to increase. The company opened 41 stores since January. The chain returns 10 percent of its profits each year to the communities it serves.
