Kum & Go Locations Mark E15 Day
DES MOINES, Iowa — Kum & Go LC celebrated “E15 Day” Friday Sept. 16 by offering the renewable fuel — a blend of 15-percent ethanol and 85-percent gasoline — for $1.15 per gallon at many Iowa convenience stores from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To mark the day, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad signed an E15 Day proclamation during a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol. In addition, “The Bachelor” reality TV star and Iowa farmer Chris Soules was on hand at Kum & Go’s Johnston store at 5225 NW 86th Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 16 talking about the benefits of E15 with customers.
E15 was approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2011 for use in cars manufactured in the model year 2011 or later. It carries an 88 octane.
“Our cars are an important part of our everyday lives. As engine technology has evolved, so have the fuel options,” said Jim Pirolli, vice president, fuels, Kum & Go. “Kum & Go is excited to provide this opportunity for consumers to learn more about the options that are available, and save money by trying a new fuel like E15.”
Kum & Go offered the reduced E15 price at 24 Iowa locations. In total, the Des Moines-based retailer sells E15 at 90 locations across its network of stores in Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
The c-store retailer distinguishes its E15 offering by offering it via a blue hose and handle.
“People are often hesitant when it comes to trying something different in their car,” said Pirolli. “But once they try a new fuel like E15 and have good results, they switch permanently. Providing several high quality choices and helping people make informed decisions at the pump is another way that Kum & Go delivers more than customers expect.”
Kum & Go LC operates more than 400 c-stores in 11 states.
