Kwik Trip Helps Raise Funds for WWII Veterans

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Freedom Honor Flight is receiving help from Kwik Trip stores located within 100 miles of La Crosse, which are helping raise money for travel expenses for veterans to see the National World War II Memorial and other memorials in Washington, D.C. next month.

The La Crosse-based affiliate of the national Honor Flight Network will charter an airplane to take veterans to see the memorials Oct. 8. Within three weeks, approximately $50,000 dollars was raised.

More than 300 veterans applied for the first trip, which will cost an estimated $115,000 and include 110 veterans, 55 guardians, two physicians from Franciscan Skemp and Gundersen Lutheran medical centers, and four paramedics from Tri-Sate Ambulance. A second trip is scheduled for next June.

Donations from the public to pay for the flights can be made at Kwik Trip stores in September or online at www.freedomhonorflight.org.
