Kwik Trip Recognized by Wisconsin Technical Colleges

03/25/2010
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Kwik Trip Inc. was recognized this week by the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, which presented the retailer with its new Futuremakers Partner Award, the La Crosse Tribune reported.

The new award -- also presented to three other organizations in the state -- recognizes companies that partner with technical colleges to foster sustainable jobs.

"This is a statement of the company, their leadership, their employees and how they give back to the community," Western Technical College President Lee Rasch said Wednesday at the school's La Crosse campus, where the System Board met this week.

Kwik Trip employs about 3,000 people in the Coulee region of Wisconsin, and is among the largest employers of Western Technical College graduates, Rasch noted.

The convenience store chain, along with its president and CEO Don Zietlow, have donated $350,000 for Western scholarships and made a $150,000 financial contribution for a Lunda Center room and outdoor seating area in Western's new courtyard, according to Peggy Langreck, development manager of Western's Foundation.

Kwik Trip and Western teamed in 1999 to make class schedules available at Kwik Trip stores throughout the college's district. Rather than mail the schedules, Western now sends a postcard listing where the information can be picked up, the report stated.
