Love's to Purchase CNG Trucks for Fuel Delivery
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores purchased 50 new Freightliner Cascadia trucks with the Cummins Westport 12-liter compressed natural gas (CNG) engine for its fleet of fuel haulers, operating under its Gemini Transport brand. Gemini is a sister company to Love's and has been testing the 12-liter CNG engine in one of its Freightliner fuel trucks since September 2012.
"We've had great success with the CNG engine in delivering fuel to Love's locations in our home state of Oklahoma," said Brent Bergevin, director of transportation for Gemini Transport. "The CNG engine has a 450-mile range, and we've seen a significant cost benefit in using CNG as a transportation fuel."
Gemini will purchase and take delivery of the 50 trucks through ATC Freightliner in Oklahoma City during the fourth quarter of 2013. Keeping an all-Freightliner fleet was important to the company as it tests new technology, the company said.
"As the natural gas truck market share leader, Freightliner's knowledge and expertise was very helpful in our selection process," added Bergevin.
Love's made another recent push for CNG with its announcement that the company is adding fast-fill fueling capability to service Class 8 trucks at eight travel stops in Texas, as CSNews Online previously reported.
