MAPCO Express Opens MAPCO Mart in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- MAPCO Express Inc., celebrated the grand opening of its new "ultimate convenience store" at 5101 Oscar Baxter Blvd., the company reported.

The store, formerly a Discount Food Mart also owned by MAPCO Express Inc. a subsidiary of Delek US Holdings Inc, was razed and rebuilt as a MAPCO Mart to offer additional products, quality food that is prepared to order and, of course, convenience.

"With our new next generation store design, we are able to provide our customers with GrilleMarx, our own upscale proprietary food offering," said Paul Pierce, vice president of marketing for MAPCO Express. "This is the second new upscale concept store in Alabama and is the future for MAPCO."

The new MAPCO Mart more than doubled the existing store's size from 2,000 square feet to 4,250 square feet, making the interiors spacious and welcoming to accommodates the area's high traffic, while providing a warm and friendly environment, according to the company.

The store features bilingual touch-screen terminals for ordering the proprietary made-to-order food hot off the grill and grab and go hot food offerings; an upscale fountain area with flavor shots, fresh premium coffee made every 30 minutes; a stacked stone, walk-in "beer cave;" tables to sit and eat; and expanded bakery offerings. It also offers an ATM, and customers can get money orders as well.

Another new feature is a smoothie maker station, which was showcased at the recent National Restaurant Show in Chicago, the company reported. Customers place their choice of a frozen mix or milkshake in a machine that pulls the frozen cup into its mixer, thaws it and creates a shake or smoothie.

The fueling stations were expanding from four dispensers and eight positions, to eight fuel dispensers and 16 positions, which allow for quick and easy fueling, the company stated.
