9/5/2011

This vice president of category management makes sure to spend plenty of time in the great outdoors

Matt Paduano brought seven and a half years of experience in the convenience store industry when he joined Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes the day after Christmas in 1995. A graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego with a degree in accounting, he is currently the vice president of category management for Nice N Easy, which is headquartered in Canastota, N.Y., home of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Paduano lives just outside Canastota with his wife of 24 years, Maureen, and their three children Nicole, 21, Alyssa, 20 and Anthony, 16. Matt is an avid hunter, sometime-fisherman, part-time gardener and occasional wine maker.

If you were to change careers, what would you want to do?

I want to be one of those guys on the Outdoor Channel that spends September through January traveling all over the country hunting, and then spends February through August making TV shows talking about their hunting from the previous season.

If you could be another person for a day, who would you be and why?

My wife Maureen — 24 years of “try being in my shoes” to really appreciate what it's like being her and putting up with yours truly. God, that may be the longest day of my life.

If you won the lottery, your first purchase would be…

A 2011 Gray Camaro SS Convertible with black stripe for my wife. For me, 200 acres of woods and farmland to hunt on.

What was the last thing to make you laugh out loud?

My 20-year-old daughter Alyssa wanted to see if the internal trunk release mechanism on her new car actually worked. She had me lock her in the trunk and it actually worked.

What is your favorite c-store item?

Pizza — only from Nice N Easy.
