Meijer Opens First E85 Pump in Michigan
WARREN, Mich. -- In a partnership with General Motors (GM), Meijer has opened its first E85 ethanol pump at its newest gas station, located in Warren, Mich.
This pump is the first of 20 E85 fuel dispensers to be installed in the state by the end of this year with the partnership, after that the plan for more E85 pumps will be extended into Indiana.
"Customers across the state, beginning here in east Michigan, will be able to select E85 ethanol when they stop in to fill up at Meijer," said Hank Meijer, co-CEO and co-founder of Meijer. "Meijer wants to be able to provide our customers with convenience while supporting the use of cleaner burning fuels, like ethanol."
The state of Michigan has more than 140,000 flex-fuel GM vehicles currently in use and more than 2 million across the nation, according to Elizabeth Lowery, vice president of Environment and Energy for GM.
Meijer, General Motors, CleanFUEL USA and the State of Michigan announced a collaborative partnership in April to increase awareness and use of the ethanol based fuel.
As part of the deal, local GM dealers will promote new refueling stations when customers purchase its FlexFuel vehicles. GM currently has more than two million FlexFuel vehicles on the road capable of using E85 ethanol fuel.
Meijer operates more than 175 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
