Mike And Ike Offer Lemonade Blends For Limited Time
With the unveiling of Mike and Ike Lemonade Blends, a flavor the result of Just Born's 2007 "Mix Master" consumer contest to choose the next Mike and Ike Candy, the candy company is partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Over 140,000 online votes resulted in Lemonade Blends being chosen as consumers' favorite. The candy is a five-flavor mix of Lemonade, Raspberry Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, Lime Lemonade, and Tangerine Lemonade flavors.
The Mike and Ike brand will make a minimum donation of $100,000 per year to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to assist in its fight to cure childhood cancer.
"We believe in developing relationships with organizations that help us fulfill the social responsibilities we have to the people and communities in which we live and work," said Kathy Bassininski, Just Born's vice president of brand development and corporate services.
"Alexandra Scott set an example for all of us and we would like to help continue her vision by teaming up with the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation."
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the fron tyard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). At the age of four, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.
To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $18 million towards fulfilling Alex's dream of finding a cure, funding over 50 research projects nationally.
