Mountainside Farms UltraPure Milk

Mountainside Farms, an affiliate to Elmhurst Dairy, released an ultra-pure line of milk that spans the gap between conventional and organic milk. UltraPure milk -- available in Whole, 2 percent, Reduced Fat, 1 percent Lowfat and Fat Free -- comes from cows free of antibiotics and growth hormones. The milk comes from 120 different farms based in upstate New York that have certified they do not use growth hormones on cows and is tested for the six common antibiotics commonly used. Using a centrifuge and filtration process, the company estimates that it eliminates 90 percent more bacteria before pasteurization than regular milk, allowing for an extended shelf-life up to 17 days. Its suggested retail price is $2.49 per half gallon.
