NASM Mourns Loss of Former Chairman
PLEASANTON, Texas -- Ernest "Bubba" Wehman, Jr., 72, a long-time member of the National Association of Shell Marketers (NASM) and chairman of the group from 1989 to 1990, died Saturday, Nov. 3, in Pleasanton, Texas. A memorial service was held Nov. 7. NASM sent its heartfelt condolences to the Wehman family.
Wehman, Jr. age was a graduate of Pleasanton High School in 1958 and went on to receive an Associate of Arts Degree from Schreiner Institute in 1960. He then received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962. He was later honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1969.
He continued a business his father started in 1933 and became president of Wehman Inc. in 1977. His passion for the petroleum industry led him to become involved in state and national organizations of Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA), Texas Oil Marketers Association and National Association of Texaco Wholesalers, where he served as president for each.
He was involved with many civic duties including Pleasanton Jaycees and went on to be a state director. He was also a member of the Pleasanton Rotary Club for 50 years and served as president and assistant to the District Governor for several terms. He was a member of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, South Texas Chamber of Commerce and Texas Chamber of Commerce and served as president for all those organizations. He served on many different community boards including Atascosa Hospital Association, Atascosa Appraisal District and Alamo Area Council of Boy Scouts.
His dedication for education led him to serve on the Board of Directors of Texas State Technical College, Board of Trustees of Schreiner College, Texas Council on Economic Education, several Pleasanton ISD campus committees and Pleasanton District Education Improvement Council. He was also a founding member and board member of Pleasanton ISD Education Foundation.
He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Jourdanton where he served on Church Council and was President for several terms
Wehman is survived by his wife; Janie Raye Wehman of Pleasanton; daughters Staci Barta and husband Jeff of Pleasanton, Andra Smith and husband Craig of Sequim, Washington and Jane Ann Elizondo and husband Daniel of Silsbee; grandchildren: Tyler Jones, Dalyn Jones, Phillip Barta, Veronica Barta, Travis Barta, Mollie Smith, Samantha Smith, Kinley Owens and Gabe Elizondo as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Amanda Wehman, Sr. and sister and brother-in-law: Don and Jo Ann McFarland.
