New Certified Prototypes on Schedule for August Launch

By Don Longo

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Certified Oil, which operates 86 company-owned convenience stores based here, is on schedule to open two new prototype stores in August—as first reported by CSNews Online last October.

The first of the new prototype stores is expected to open in within the first two weeks of August in Chillicothe, according to Merchandising Manager Wayne Wills, who gave CSNews Online a tour of two of the company’s recently remodeled stores in the greater Columbus area last week. The other new prototype will be in Groveport, Ohio.

The new prototypes are 3,200 square feet and 2,800 square feet, respectively, and feature expanded foodservice offer including an open air sandwich cooler, bigger sandwich warming bins and expanded menu, including pizza. The coffee and soda fountain areas will also be better defined.

Late last year, the venerable Ohio company that supplies fuel to more than 50 other stations in addition to its company-operated stores, rebranded and remodeled 10 stores in its home Columbus market to a more updated, modern look. Another dozen existing stores are currently undergoing similar changes, said Wills, who added the retailer also just completed the rollout of its new loyalty program called Certified Savings in Columbus. "We’ve achieved over double-digit penetration already," said Wills.
