New Chairman at NYACS
ALBANY -- Gary Mikutel, regional manager of Xtra Mart Convenience Stores, has been elected chairman of the New York Association of Convenience Stores (NYACS) for 2006 to 2007.
Mikutel oversees the operations of 70 Xtra Mart locations in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and western New England.
"We must remain banded together. We need to stay the course, keep speaking out about the major issues facing our industry, and look at each other not as competitors but as brothers in a struggle against overregulation," he said in a written statement.
Mikutel has served on the board of directors for NYACS since 2002, and succeeds Mickey Jamal of Chestnut Petroleum Distributors, located in New Paltz N.Y.
Mikutel began his career in the industry in 1971 as a manager for Lehigh Oil Co., located in Norwich, Connecticut. Later he was promoted to the position of supervisor, where he oversaw 15 gas stations and stores.
He joined Drake Petroleum Inc. in 1984 -- which operates more than 200 Xtra Mart stores in 10 states. Additionally, he has served as supervisor, district manager, food service coordinator, director of marketing, and his current position of regional manager.
Xtra Mart is a division of Providence R.I.-based Warren Equities Inc., one of the nation's top 500 privately held companies as listed by Forbes.
NYACS, a private non profit organization serving 7,000 local c-stores, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
