PDI Teams with TNS to Provide Secure WANs

TEMPLE, Texas -- Convenience retailers wanting to install cost-effective wide area networks (WANs) in their stores are lauding Tuesday's announcement teaming Transaction Network Services Inc. (TNS) and Professional Datasolutions Inc. (PDI) to provide a wide range of WAN products and services.

Devin Bates, CFO and CIO of San Angelo, Texas-based Town and Country Food Stores, said, "This arrangement sounds like what we have been looking for. We need a professionally managed and secure network like TNS delivers to provide the infrastructure needed to take our company to the next level of automation. We also need a company like PDI to bring the industry knowledge to the equation. We see the combination as quite intriguing."

Greg Gilkerson, PDI's president, commented, "Convenience store operators have realized the need for a network infrastructure that facilitates a wide variety of applications. We see company networks being to the 21st-century convenience store what the PC was in the 80s and 90s. With the TNS offering, we are tapping into years of experience in the areas where retailers most need help: secure credit and financial transactions. We can't wait to complete our pilot programs and begin actively marketing these services."

Larry Crompton, TNS senior vice president and general manager of the POS Services division, added, "We believe our experience coupled with PDI's reputation for successful automation programs will allow us to serve the convenience store industry much more effectively than if we did this on our own. We are committed to assist PDI and their future customers in any way possible to ensure a successful program."
