HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- The Kroger Co.'s convenience division gained the experience of two convenience veterans recently, as Ken Nuss was promoted to the position of vice president of marketing for its c-stores and Michael Hoffman joined the company from Kwik Shop, where he was the president.
Nuss' promotion is effective Feb. 1. In this role, he will continue to report directly to Van S. Tarver, the vice president of convenience stores, Turkey Hill Dairy and supermarket petroleum for Kroger. Nuss comes to the position from his role as corporate director of marketing for Kroger's convenience stores, which he held since 2002. Nuss began his career with Kwik Shop in 1986, and served in various operations and marketing positions while at that company.
"Ken has done an outstanding job with the marketing department for all of the c-store divisions and we look forward to his continued contribution to our corporate organization," Tarver said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Hoffman joined the Kroger central region corporate office as the director of c-store bridging, where he will lead the effort to bridge the company's supermarkets and c-store formats. He came to the company from its Kwik Ship division, where he served as president beginning in 2001.
Prior to joining Kwik Shop, Hoffman was the vice president of operations for Turkey Hill Minit Markets, and has more than 20 years of experience in the convenience store industry.
"We are very excited to have Mike join the corporate office and accept the challenge to direct this strategic corporate initiative in this new position," said Tarver. "Mike has made significant improvements at the Kwik Shop division and we look forward to his continued efforts toward this new endeavor."
The promotion is effective immediately, and Hoffman will report directly to Tarver.
Meanwhile, Jeff Parker will immediately succeed Hoffman as president of Kwik Shop, operator of 131 convenience stores across Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Parker comes to the role from his position as senior vice president of operations for Kwik Shop, which he has held since June 2006. Prior to Kwik Shop, Parker was the corporate controller for Kroger's convenience stores, Turkey Hill Dairy and supermarket petroleum.
"Jeff's considerable experience and knowledge of the industry will continue to play an important role in the future growth of our Kwik Shop division," Tarver said.
