Marsh Supermarkets Inc., operating 162 Village Pantry convenience stores, appointed John C. Elbin as chief financial officer. Elbin, a certified public accountant, comes to Marsh with experience outside the retailing industry.

"John brings to us a wealth of experience and expertise in corporate finance, strategic planning, day-to-day operations, accounting, capital investments and marketing," said Don E. Marsh, the regional chain's chairman and chief executive officer. "We look forward to his contributions in identifying business trends and helping shape our future growth and development."

Most recently, Elbin was vice president and CFO, secretary and board member for Lilly Industries Inc., in Indianapolis. He started his career at Price Waterhouse, where he was a senior accountant in the Columbus, Ohio, office from 1975 to 1979. For the next 16 years, he held a variety of management positions for Pet Incorporated in St. Louis, including chief financial officer for five years.

In other people news, KSS Inc., supplier of intelligent pricing solutions for the food, drug, convenience and retail petroleum industries, announced that Scott Stein and Lyle Walker, two retail industry veterans, recently joined the KSS management team.

Scott Stein has joined as vice president of professional services and Lyle Walker has joined as vice president of global marketing. Both positions report to Iain Cockburn, CEO, and will play an instrumental role to support the growing demand for KSS’s products and services, the company reported.

Lyle Walker brings more than 25 years of retail operations and merchandising experience, including 13 years with Kroger Food Stores, where he served in various merchandising and merchandising technology roles. Most recently, he was the director of marketing for Retalix Ltd. In Walker's current role as vice president of global marketing, he will be responsible for company and product messaging, as well as working to insure that the KSS suite of Demand Intelligence solutions continue to deliver exceptional customer value.

Scott Stein brings more than 24 years of experience in high-performance information technology infrastructures, including a nine-year tenure as CIO for one of the largest convenience/petroleum retail chains, Dairy Mart convenience stores. Stein is a customer service expert with a pioneering career reflecting expertise in large-scale information technology automation, turnaround initiatives, business process reengineering, business development and call center operations. In his current role as vice president of professional services, he will be responsible for the management of all implementations and services for the U.S. operations.
