Pepsi Next to Launch Nationally in the Spring

PORTLAND, Ore. -- PepsiCo Inc. will launch its new mid-calorie soda, Pepsi Next, nationwide starting in early spring, according to a Bloomberg Businessweek report.

PepsiCo Beverages America CEO Massimo d'Amore stated last June that the company would test the soda in Iowa and Wisconsin. The testing results exceeded PepsiCo's expectations, according to the report, and Pepsi Next will go on sale across the United States at the beginning of the second fiscal quarter of 2012.

Pepsi Next reportedly has 60 percent fewer calories than regular Pepsi. An eight-ounce serving contains 40 calories, while a 12-ounce serving contains 60 calories.

A spokeswoman for PepsiCo deferred comment on product details and marketing efforts until closer to launch time. Following the announcement, PepsiCo shares rose 59 cents to close at $65.09 on Wednesday.
