Philadelphia Harpist Creates an Ode to Wawa

PHILADELPHIA — It's official: Wawa Inc. has it's own song.

Mary Lattimore, a harpist based in Philadelphia, featured the song "Wawa by the Ocean" on Collected Pieces, her latest LP, reported Philly.com.

The 10-minute harp-led ode to the convenience store chain was inspired by a particular beach and a particular Wawa.

"'Wawa by the Ocean' is dedicated to my favorite beach, Ship Bottom, N.J., and my favorite Wawa convenience store, Wawa #700," Lattimore told clrvynt.com. "The store is so close to the entrance to the beach, so you can change into your swimsuit, grab a veggie hoagie, a giant water [and] a container of pineapple with a fork, and you have your own little mini-vacation all day before driving back home. Twelve summers of solo trips to Ship Bottom and it hasn't really changed. I'll always visit it in my dreams."

"Wawa by the Ocean" was originally released in June 2016 before being placed on the album, which is a collection of recordings previously available only online. Collected Pieces will be released April 14 by Ghostly International.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa operates more than 730 convenience stores, with more than 500 offering gas, in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
