POPS Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
ARCADIA, Okla. -- Exactly one year to the date, POPS, located on a stretch of famed Route 66 in Oklahoma, celebrated its first anniversary complete with clowns, face painting and free cupcakes yesterday.
"Our demographic consists of mothers, fathers, children and grandparents, so we wanted to provide a family friendly birthday party for our customers as a way of saying thank you," POPS marketing manager, Jessica Ockershauser, told CSNews Online.
Averaging 1,000 customers per day, Ockershauser explained people come to POPS from all over the country, and in some cases, all over the world, from places including China, Spain and Australia. "We have far exceeded our projections and expectations," Ockershauser told CSNews Online.
As its name indicates, sodas and its signature FIZZ! are staples at the 5,000-square-foot convenience store and restaurant. And for good reason, as the store offers more than 600 selections. Ockershauser told CSNews Online the company expected to sell 175,000 bottles in its first year. At last count, that number exceeded 600,000.
"People really like the selection, and it’s a big draw," she told CSNews Online, adding that customers have access to a touchscreen kiosk which allows them to hand-pick from more than 700 sodas and have them shipped anywhere in the United States. Ockershauser said the store’s distributors claim they have the largest selection in the nation.
When asked reason for the immediate success, Ockershauser said the store is a "destination for travelers." Indeed it is as Travel + Leisure’s June issue declared POPS as one of the Top 50 places to visit in the U.S., as well as one of the Best New Sweet Stops in the country. In addition, POPS has been featured on the "Today Show," MSNBC, CNN and CBS.
