Price Chopper Sponsoring Lacrosse Finals

5/21/2014

Price Chopper, together with West Palm Beach, Fla.-based School Sports Media, will for the third consecutive year sponsor the Section III Boys & Girls Lacrosse finals in Syracuse, N.Y.

Referring to lacrosse as "one of the fastest-growing sports in the world," Pam Cerrone, manager of community relations at Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper, said the company expected "some exciting play as the teams enter the Section III championship season."

"The fiscal realities of the budget cuts are affecting fundamental after-school activities everywhere, so sections across the state have to be more creative," noted Section III Athletics Executive Director John Rathbun, adding that Price Chopper's "commitment will help make up some of the budget gaps we as a section face in keeping our championships in place."

All of the championship games will be played at Syracuse University's Carrier Dome. The boys' championship games are May 24, while the girls' championship games take place May 27.

The Golub Corp. owns and operates 133 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The family-owned company employs more than 22,000 associates who collectively own 52 percent of the company’s privately held stock.

Section III Athletics is the governing body of 23,000 student athletes and 109 school districts in central New York, and the largest region affiliated with the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
