Quick Chek Checks Into New York

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- By August, the Quick Chek chain of convenience stores will have a foothold in a new frontier -- New York. The company, based here, plans to open two new stores in Florida, N.Y. and New Windsor, N.Y., on July 10 and early August, respectively.

The stores, at more than 7,000 square feet, will boast a multitude of fresh-to-go features, including a 20-minute freshness guarantee for coffee; a complete Made Fresh for You sub, soup, wrap and hot breakfast foodservice program; onsite fresh baking; computer touchscreen ordering; a large variety of beer, stocked cold in beer caves, and a wide variety of fill-in groceries, John Schaninger, vice president of sales and merchandising for Quick Chek, told CSNews Online.

In addition, the New Windsor location will be the first Quick Chek store with a car wash facility.

The day before the stores are set to open, a pre-opening party will be held. Following that, two weeks of sampling and events will draw visitors to the new stores, he added.

The choice to move into New York was simple. "These localities have a need that we can fulfill," said Schaninger. "Growth is essential for us to offer our team opportunities."

So far, local communities players, including residents and officials, have given positive feedback concerning the stores, he said.

These stores are only the beginning in the Emprire State for Quick Chek, as it will be expanding further based on its internal growth plan, according to Schaninger.
