Quick Chek's Sub Showdown Contest Declares a Winner
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- On Oct. 18, foodservice chain Quick Chek crowned Alan Kahn of Old Bridge, N.J., the champion of the first-ever Quick Chek Sub Showdown, the company press release stated.
Kahn's winning recipe, the "Big Bad Bacon Chicken" sub will have the chance to be added to Quick Chek's sub variety menu and sold throughout its entire operating region, according to the company. Kahn was also the recipient of $1,500 in Quick Chek gift cards.
The three-month-long submission process asked contestants to log on to www.ilovemysub.com and submit their own signature sub sandwich recipes, where visitors could then vote for their favorite sub. Five finalists out of more than 4,000 entries were chosen to compete in the first-ever Quick Chek Sub Showdown held at the chain's newest location in Bayonne, N.J. on Oct. 16.
In front of a panel of four judges including: Jennifer Vespole, Quick Chek senior category manager-foodservice; Mandy Steindl-Kwiecien, Quick Chek category manager; Robert Conti, performance food group corporate chef; and Kimberly Oleksiak-Cuebas, Quick Chek Facebook fan, the five contestants prepared and presented their signature subs.
While Kahn took top prize, three runners-up were chosen: Michael Caballero from Piscataway, N.J. created the "Pigs in a Blanket" sub; Joseph Cristiano from Suffern, N.Y. created the "Mozzarella Mania" sub; and Katy Ellis from Ewing, N.J. created the "Mouser" sub. Each runner-up also received a $125 Quick Chek gift card.
