QuickChek Quietly Eyeing Long Island

BAYPORT, N.Y. – QuickChek Corp. may expand into Long Island with the purchase or lease of a property at the corner of Snedecor Avenue and Montauk Highway in Bayport, according to the Sayville-Bayport Patch.

Company officials reportedly reached out to the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce and the Bayport Civic Association to discuss a potential store project there, said Civic President Bob Draffin.

"This isn't anything on a drawing board and there is no application [to the Town of Islip]. They just wanted to meet with us about it and discuss the potential project," Draffin said last week during the association's monthly meeting.

The three-parcel site currently contains Bayport Transmission, a used car lot and a residential parcel. QuickChek locations typically require a minimum of two acres, traffic of 25,000 cars daily, a corner property with signal intersection, room for a 5,400- to 7,000-square-foot building, parking capacity for at least 40 cars, and 24-hour operations, according to the company's website.

If built at this site, the QuickChek location would be the fifth gas station in Bayport and substantially larger than the nearby Hess station, Draffin said.

Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based QuickChek operates more than 130 convenience stores and gas stations throughout New Jersey and southern New York.
