RaceTrac, Wawa Changing Central Florida’s C-store Landscape

POINCIANA, Fla. -- Wawa Inc. is not the only convenience store chain making waves in central Florida.

About 36 miles away from Wawa's much ballyhooed entry into the Florida market via Orlando, RaceTrac Petroleum held a grand opening in Poinciana, Fla., for its "RT6K" prototype store, Around Osceola.com reported.

The 6,000-square-foot RaceTrac store employs an executive chef and features a frozen yogurt station with 10 flavors and 40 toppings; coffee that is brewed 24/7; burritos, flatbread sandwiches and many other new food items; a beer cave; and free Wi-Fi.

"We wanted [the store] to be bright and airy with a great message about food," Bob Derian, executive chef, told the news outlet. "We want you to feel welcome."

More RaceTrac prototype stores are currently under construction in Osceola County and Kissimmee, Fla. However, they will have competition from Wawa, which is expected to open new stores in Osceola and Kissimmee as well in the near future, according to the report.

Wawa's Orlando location features made-to-order fresh foods, hot breakfast sandwiches, specialty beverages and more.
