Revamped New York Driver License Not Scanning in C-stores
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- While the concept behind New York state’s new enhanced driver license was to streamline encrypted information with available retail technology, over 16,000 stores are not able to access information.
Nice N Easy store manager Ron Rowland told 13WHAN.com that the barcode which provides age verification "wouldn’t read." The new system was launched, in part, by New York Lottery which supplied over 16,000 scanners to retail establishments.
A lottery spokesperson told 13WHAN.com that a concerted effort to address flaws is underway with Department of Motor Vehicles. However, the necessary software upgrades won’t be live until at least January.
