Rhodes Gets Customers Involved in Setting New World Record

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Rhodes Convenience Stores is going big this summer.

The Missouri-based operator is thirsting to break the world record for the largest fountain drink cup in history, which currently stands at 3,246 gallons.

"We aim to beat it," Rhodes President Jeff Maurer said during a mock press conference on May 26. “The most exciting part about breaking this world record is that every one of our customers at Rhodes 101 gets to be part of helping us set the new world record.”

Starting on Memorial Day Weekend through the months of June and July, every cup sold at a Rhodes c-store will contribute 1-ounce toward the new cup the company hopes to set the new world record with. The cup that Rhodes designs will be unveiled at a party at Mercado Di Rodi in Cape Girardeau on Sunday, Aug. 20.

To verify the world record, the c-store operator will bring an official world record judge, as well as county health inspector and licensed engineer to verify the hygienic condition, capacity and size of the cup.

With the unveiling date falling on National Lemonade Day, the c-store operator will fill the new cup with lemonade and give away one cup of lemonade to all Rhodes customers at the end of the party.

“Our aim is to make fountain drinks big again,” chimed Brent Anderson, vice president of operations.

Rhodes will track its progress via the company’s Facebook page.

Headquartered in Cape Girardeau, Rhodes operates 29 convenience stores throughout Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.
