Ruiz Foods Awards Tornados “Skin It to Win It” Winner
DINUBA, Calif. -- Ruiz Foods awarded the grand prize in its Tornados “Skin It to Win It” Facebook challenge. Breast cancer survivor Susan Edman, of Apple Valley, Minn., got to meet her favorite NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Ryan Newman July 3, prior to the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 race at Daytona International Speedway.
The Tornados “Skin It to Win It” challenge asked Facebook fans to nominate their vehicle to be wrapped like the No. 39 Tornados racecar. The grand prize included an opportunity to see Ryan Newman race, $1,000, an iPod nano and the free vehicle wrap.
Other prizes awarded in the contest included tens of thousands of dollars in electronics, Tornados racing merchandise, coupons and more, according to the company.
Edman’s husband, Chris, entered the contest on her behalf. In his entry, he wrote: “My wife survived breast cancer last year and while Ryan Newman has always been her favorite, he was especially helpful during chemo, although he will never know that. Watching him race ... was a welcome distraction for her while enduring the weekly poison that ultimately saved her life. Skinning her van would blow her mind -- she deserves to have something fun happen to her, as do all those whom cancer has touched.”
Out of the nearly 2,500 submissions from across the U.S., Chris’ entry for his wife’s van was selected. The reveal took place June 26, and on June 30, Edman, her husband and their three children drove her newly wrapped 2002 Pontiac Montana van to Daytona to see the No. 39 Tornados Chevrolet race, compliments of the Tornados brand.
The Tornados ‘Skin It to Win It’ Facebook promotion, which began March 5 and ended May 3, generated impressive statistics including: 182,092,217 brand impressions; 632,102 active interactions; 221,512 votes and comments; and 2,471 user submissions.
Tornados -- a convenient snack filled with grilled meats, melted cheeses and bold flavors wrapped in a crispy crust -- is available in most convenience and retail grocery stores nationwide, according to the company. There are more than 14 flavors of Tornados available.
