Rutter's Adds Hometown Favorites to Food Menu
YORK, Pa. — Rutter's Farm Stores has added two hometown favorites to its menu in a nod to the unique fare of central Pennsylvania, as well as one classic American dish. Whoopie pies, fried sweet bologna and macaroni and cheese are now available at the convenience store chain.
Whoopie pies have been a product of Pennsylvania Dutch kitchens for generations. Rutter's said it uses a time-tested local recipe to create the authentic flavor locals have come to love. The chain's whoopie pies consist of two sweet chocolate cakes that sandwich a velvety white filling.
Additionally, for a snack with more substance, the 5-ounce fried sweet bologna bites are made with sweet and savory chunks of Pennsylvania's own Lebanon sweet bologna. They are fried to order and served with any dipping sauce available on Rutter's menu.
As an all-American favorite, macaroni and cheese offers a fast, delicious dinnertime addition or anytime snack to Rutter's customers, the retailer said. To make each meal heartier, beef short ribs, taco meat, chili, Philly steak or bacon can be added to each 7-ounce serving of traditional shells and creamy cheddar cheese.
"Mac and cheese is classic American comfort food," stated Rutter's Vice President of Foodservice Jerry Weiner. "We're happy to be able to provide it in a fast and fresh way for our on-the-go customers."
York-based Rutter's Farm Stores operates 60 convenience stores in central Pennsylvania.
