Rutter's Gets a Visit from Down Under

YORK, Pa. -- A delegation of 43 convenience-store executives from Australia visited two Rutter's convenience stores over the weekend, as part of a study tour of innovations and best practices in the convenience industry, the Central Penn Business Journal reported.

The officials visited stores at 910 S. Richland Ave. in Spring Garden Township, Pa., and 2125 Susquehanna Trail in Manchester Township, Pa., from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., according to the report.

The tour, organized by the Australian Association of Convenience Stores, is visiting stores in the U.S., Canada and France, and spent time at the NACS Show 2007 last week. Other chains on the tour include Sheetz Inc. and Wawa Inc., which are also based in Pennsylvania. In Canada, travelers will visit Couche-Tard's Mac's convenience store, Petro Canada, Tire Q and Rabba's.

In Australia, convenience stores go by the moniker "milk bar," but despite the name, beer is not sold there, the report stated.
