Rutter's Salutes Hometown With Signature Burger

YORK, Pa. — Rutter's is paying homage to its hometown with its new Route 30 Burger. The signature offering brings together two Central Pennsylvania favorites: the grilled cheese sandwich and the one-third-pound, 100-percent Angus Beef Burger.

The Route 30 Burger will give the convenience retailer's customers the opportunity to taste two toasted-to-perfection grilled cheese sandwiches serving as the "buns" with the choice of one, two or three one-third-pound burgers inside.

"At Rutter's, food quality and creativity are at the core of our philosophy. We strive to create separators that beg to ask the question, 'Why go anywhere else?' The Route 30 Burger with its high-quality ingredients and fully customizable options emphatically answers the question: drive to Rutter's," said Ryan Krebs, Rutter's director of foodservice.

The item's name salutes the original Rutter family farm and current corporate headquarters located just a few blocks away from the major interstate. The burger and the road have something else in common — at 3,073 miles, Route 30 is the third longest route across the United States, and this burger is the largest at Rutter's Farm Stores.

The Route 30 Burger comes standard with bacon and melted cheese on each burger layer. Customers can add other toppings such as pastrami, hot beef brisket and hot corned beef to accompany each layer.

Non meat-eating customers also have the choice of Rutter's new Chipotle Black Bean Veggie Burger alongside freshly prepared veggies and the grilled cheese buns.

Rutter's launched a social media contest to mark the introduction of the Route 30 Burger. Customers can upload a picture of their burger to their favorite social media site using the hashtag #rt30burgercontest for a chance to win a $500 Rutter's gift card. The customer who receives the most votes on their photo will be declared the winner.

In 2014 and 2015, Rutter's Farm Stores won Convenience Store News Foodservice Innovators Awards.

York-based Rutter's is a family-owned convenience store chain operating 60 convenience stores throughout Central Pennsylvania.
