Sheetz Awards Ohio Customer Free Gas for a Year

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. awarded customer John Karaiskos of Massillon, Ohio, free gas for a year as the third big winner in the chain’s “My Sheetz Card" fuel giveaway, which continues through Feb. 13, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

Karaiskos, a sales representative who said he regularly stops at Sheetz for gas and coffee, was honored earlier this week with balloons and a Sheetz gift card loaded with his free gasoline at the Sheetz store in Akron, Ohio.

He learned of his prize about three weeks ago after his Sheetz gas reward card -- a "My Sheetz Card" -- was scanned at the in-store kiosk at the South Akron store. The computer selected Karaiskos at random from among users of the new Sheetz reward card.

''I was totally floored,'' said Karaiskos. ''I know people say they never win anything, but I'm one of those people who really doesn't win things like this. I did a double take. My first thought was, this can't be right. But it was. I feel very lucky ... it's a great prize."

Karaiskos will get up to $2,000 worth of free gas, or about 20 gallons a week, said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing for Sheetz, the Altoona, Pa.-based operator of 352 convenience stores and gas stations, including 26 in northeast Ohio.

The "My Sheetz Card" rewards program is a new way for customers to earn points toward discounts on gasoline. Shoppers present their "My Sheetz Card" every time they make a purchase at Sheetz and accumulate points that can be redeemed for discounts on gasoline, and can save 10, 20, even 30 cents a gallon on the next fill up.
