Sheetz to Educate Employees on Earth Day
ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz Inc. is continuing its commitment to sustainability by hosting an Earth Day celebration at its Claysburg, Pa., distribution center on April 22. This will give employees an opportunity to learn about healthier lifestyle choices for themselves and the environment, the company said.
Local environmental and health organizations, including Canoe Creek State Park, Rails to Trails, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Blair County Conservation District, will attend the event and discuss energy efficiency and conservation, nature, health and wellbeing.
Sheetz family members and the Sheetz Executive Committee will also plant a tree on the Claysburg campus to show the company's commitment to becoming more environmentally friendly.
"We are known for our commitment to our customers, our employees and the communities in which we operate," said President and CEO Joe Sheetz. "Our Earth Day celebration is just another way in which we can organize an educational event to show our concern for the environment and our employees."
Sheetz already takes significant steps to reduce its impact on the environment. This includes the incorporation of energy and water efficiencies into the construction of new and rebuilt Sheetz stores; investment in alternative energy infrastructures; donation of surplus food to local food banks; and a partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to remove litter from the state's roadways, greenways, parks, forests and waterways.
