Sheetz Honored as Psychologically Healthy Workplace
ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Psychological Association awarded convenience store retailer Sheetz Inc. with its Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award.
The annual awards program recognizes organizations that understand the link between employee health and wellbeing and organizational performance, and have implemented workplace practices aimed at creating a positive work environment, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
Altoona-based Sheetz was selected based on its programs and practices that promote employee involvement, health and safety, work-life balance and other metrics. Employee surveys and site visits are part of the association’s application process for the honor, the news outlet noted.
Sheetz was presented with the award at the association’s annual convention in Harrisburg.
This is just the latest workplace honor for the c-store chain, which operates locations in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia. Earlier this year, Sheetz made its first appearance on Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list at No. 87.
The retailer is also a repeat "Best Places to Work" honoree in several states where it operates, including Pennsylvania (No. 8 among large companies), North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.
Among Sheetz' most impressive employee wellness initiatives is its 11,000-square-foot Sheetz Center for Shwellness in Claysburg, Pa., which opened in 2012. The gold level LEED-certified center is a health, fitness and learning facility that serves as a hub for wellness outreach to the 15,500-plus Sheetz employees across the company's six-state service area.
