Sheetz Keeps Business in the Family
ALTONNA, Pa. -- Joe S. Sheetz, son of recently deceased Joe M. Sheetz, will take over his father's role as the leader of the Sheetz's store development department. The executive vice president position was held by his father for 25 years until he passed away in August of this year from kidney cancer.
The younger Sheetz assumes all responsibility for store development, including site selection and construction for both new and rebuilt stores. He started this position on Sept. 18. He will also continue in his role as executive vice president of finance, where he oversees all finance, technology and accounting functions. He has held that position since June of 1996.
Joe. S. Sheetz started his career with Sheetz serving numerous accounting and operations functions throughout high school and college. In 1989, Sheetz graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business with a bachelor of science in Finance and a concentration in economics and entrepreneurial management.
His first job after college was as an employee benefits consultant for CGI Consulting, where he specialized in the design of benefits and retirement plans for major corporations. In August of 1995 he returned to Sheetz as a director of personnel, where he worked on similar projects including retirement, benefits and compensation packages.
Sheetz operates 327 convenience locations with more than 10,000 employees throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. It reported more than $3.4 billion in revenue for 2005. The company ranks 87th on the Forbes list of largest private companies in 2006. It also has been named one of the best places to work in both Ohio and Pennsylvania for 2006.
