Sheetz to Test Two Stores on One Avenue

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Sheetz plans to find out if Johnstown consumers can handle a double dose of the c-store chain by operating two stores on opposite sides of Scalp Avenue, according to a Tribune-Democrat report.

One Sheetz store is already in operation at the corner of Scalp Avenue and Eisenhower Boulevard. The company plans to build a larger 6,000-square-foot store across the street in University Park Plaza.

"The plan for the existing store is for it to exist as is, and operate as is," Bob Franks, engineering and permit manager for Sheetz Inc., said at a Richland Township Planning Commission meeting this Tuesday. "We decided to perform a bit of a test."

The company official said Sheetz intends to operate the old store for at least a year after the new location opens, according to the report.
