Shell Expands Technology Commitment

The Royal Dutch/Shell Group partnered with SAP AG and SAPMarkets Inc., the exchange company of the SAP group, to power the Shell groupwide, globally integrated e-procurement system.

Shell, SAPMarkets and SAP AG will also work together on a strategic development project for master data synchronization of Shell's back-end point-of-sale (POS) systems.

In addition, Shell will use SAP's MarketSet as a private exchange to integrate procurement activities through the oil industry exchange Trade-Ranger and to integrate master data spread across back-end systems throughout its business units worldwide.

"Shell has been working with SAP for more than 15 years," said Harry Roels, managing director of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group. "We believe that SAPMarkets and SAP can provide us with the e-business technology that we need to build an integrated, global e-procurement system, which Shell will use to make e-procurement transactions through the oil industry exchange Trade-Ranger. E-procurement will deliver substantial benefits through greater transparency, better information, increased efficiency and standardization."
